Relocating on a Budget

Everyone’s goal in life is to save money, and moving can quickly become tight on your budget. As a global transportation company, Atlas knows how stressful, expensive, and time consuming a big move can be. Fortunately, there are some steps you can take in order to save money when relocating.

1. Downsize your clutter by reducing or recycling
We all have those items in our home that seem to follow us where ever we go. One way to significantly reduce the cost of your move is to reduce or recycle those items in which you no longer have a need for. Doing so will free up more space for items that you do care about keeping during your relocation, and will reduce extra costs.
2. Do your research
By taking the time to do some intensive research about your moving company, you may save time and money. Assuring that your moving company is providing the best services for your money may seem like a daunting task, but with the right research and information, it will pay off in the long run.
3. Know your valuation option
Valuation refers to the amount of liability that Atlas assumes, and, therefore, the amount you may receive if an item is lost or damaged while in the care of your Atlas Agent. Before you agree to a valuation option, take the time to understand the pros and cons of available choices. Accidents happen, so it is a good idea to do your research, which may result in saving you money in the long run.
4. Look for specials when setting up utilities and cable/internet
Little extra costs can add up quickly. Be on the lookout for deals and specials when setting up your utilities, cable, and internet after the move.
5. Consider “unexpected” moving expenses
In order to stay within budget for your big move, consider planning ahead to accommodate for unexpected moving expenses such as lodging in between your move, new décor, utility fees, and even groceries! See more information about unexpected moving expenses.
6. Atlas Estimate
Atlas provides helpful resources like Atlas Estimate, that can help you estimate some of the expense of your move, ahead of time.
