Moving Tips for Newlyweds

The vows have been spoken, the toasts have been made, and the honeymoon is wrapping up. Now what? Many couples are faced with the stressful task of moving in together after the big day. If you’re not already living together, there are several steps you can take when combining homes.

Downsize

Anytime you can downsize your belongings to make for a smaller move, the easier it will be. Since you are essentially gaining another household on top of your own belongings, the less items that you bring along, the less stressful it will be. Downsizing not only allows you to save time and money on your move, but gives you an opportunity to clean and declutter in an effort to get rid of things you may no longer have a use for once married.

Budget Wisely

In order to plan for your move ahead of time, you should always budget accordingly. According to a 2013 Gallup poll, only 32 percent of U.S. households prepare a monthly budget. Not only are you moving your own belongings, but your new partners’ as well! Extra costs can add up quickly if you do not consider your budget ahead of time. Be sure to look at extra ways that you can save money such as moving smaller items on your own, and considering valuation which will save you money in the event of an accident. If you are moving to a new city, don’t forget to factor in the cost of living in your new destination.

Get Moving Ahead of Time

Although it may seem like a daunting task in the middle of a wedding, you may save yourself some stress if there are any belongings that can be moved ahead of time. Consider planning out your wardrobe and moving things that you know you won’t be wearing. For example, if you are moving in the summertime, consider moving your winter wardrobe ahead of time, to save time and space.

Get a reliable moving company

Using a reliable moving company is very important when relocating for several different reasons. Chances are, you may already be stressed from wedding planning and making sure that everything goes smoothly on the big day. Let the professionals handle your move, so you don’t have to add on any stress on top of the planning. You can actually save time and money by using a professional mover. You can also ensure that all of your belongings will make it to your new destination in one piece, and that can be important when moving a new household! movr™ provides several other resources for helping you choose local providers to have things like the Wi-Fi already set up after you return from the honeymoon!
